The Historical Dulcimer
Program for Historical Villages and Museums

Dressed in 18th Century clothing I can  play historical songs on the dulcimer (mountain or hammered) for several hours (depending on the arrangement) and greet passersby with music and answer questions about the histories of the 2 types of dulcimers. I can also bring some teaching mountain dulcimers and if anyone is interested they would be welcome to sit and try it with me for a few minutes. Mountain and Hammered Dulcimer performances during "Social Teas" add a wonderful old fashioned charm

Suggestion: Dulcimer music on the front porch of a general store of main building building, or sitting under a tree by a main walkway of the village.

Hands-on-Mountain Dulcimer Mountain Dulcimer and School Programs
For Children or Adults at Schools, Libraries, Bookstores, Scouts, Camps and Churches.

Usually a one hour class where I bring 25 full-sized cardboard bodied, wooden fretboard teaching dulcimers and teach them how to play a song. I also bring a basket of spoons and we all get to play the spoons and practice keeping beats. I also bring out the limberjack . .

This program works well where I go to the individual music classes and teach the class the Beginners Dulcimer Program. Children really enjoy the hands on class. If the class goes over 25, we double the children up on the instruments and talk about sharing.

I find this class works well with the first grade on up. In some schools the fourth grade music book has a folk section and, if interested, I can also bring the guitar and sing a folk song the class might know and play the autoharp so the children can see the different instruments. This class can be done several days in a row to reach all the music classes.

Club Meetings, Luncheons, Nursing Homes and Senior Villages
I will usually play an hour program. For the first half hour, I play the guitar and sing a mixture of originals, folk, country and some order songs which are fun to sing along with. The, for the second half hour, I play the mountain and/or hammered dulcimer, talk about the instruments and show the spoons and limberjack.  You may choose from a Folk Program and a Country Program.

Coffee House and Cafe Style Music
Playing the Guitar, I play and sing a mixture of folk, country and some light 70's songs. If the atmosphere is on the quiet side, I will play some instrumentals on the mountain or hammered dulcimer.
